The 3rd day of the training is already over and there's 2 days going. The schedule seems to be following the desired flow. Eventually, we hope that the 2 days left will take place smoothly.
There is a lack of confidence when it comes to take decision. I think it might be lack of experience and it could be a weakness exploited by others.
During the training, one of the trainer talked about 'volunteer' itself.
1. Does helping an old woman cross the road is an example of volunteer action?
2. Joining a volunteer service to find a girlfriend or boyfriend. Will it still be volunteering at its best?
3. Donating $100 to a volunteer organisation. Is this considered as volunteering?
These are actually 3 difficult questions which are subject to much debate.
Probably question #3 is somehow straightforward. The act of donating does not constitute an act of volunteering in itself. This is because you are actually paying others to do something. Whereas if you do it yourself, you are actually showing more consideration and you will definitely derive a greater feeling of satisfaction.
More could be said about it. But as said, these are questions with a wide range of answers.
Team Building is also an important part of the training.
I believe that there are several weaknesses within the volunteers themselves. People come with their personal goals and most importantly, their hidden intentions. In addition, their is a lack of dedication and discipline during the training.
What can be done about it now? Nothing. In the future? Barely anything. It is extremely hard for untrained people to decipher any signs of 'fake volunteers' only through email and internet call. There are more rigorous selection method that could have been used. Nonetheless, it is not really practical among a few other reasons.
Despite the flaws, it has to be accepted as it is. How to improve? That's a very difficult question to answer.
